Some say we should stop saying “climate change” altogether. Others say people need more science and facts. Others say human stories are what actually move people. Who’s right?
Join the Alliance Center for a happy hour edition of Lunch, Unpacked, to put these views in the same room and let them rub up against each other.
What to expect
-
Hot takes: Each speaker gets a short, timed slot (and up to 5 slides) to share their take on how we talk about climate. It’s timed, but it’s all in good fun.
-
A lively panel: A moderator will keep things moving, push back where needed, and open the floor for your questions.
- Time to connect: Grab a N/A drink, meet fellow members of the Denver climate community, and keep the conversation going after the panel.
The spark
This event started with a community member’s provocative essay, “What If Climate Change Didn’t Exist?”, which argues that advocates should sell the same solutions on cost, health, and energy security without leading with the phrase “climate change.” You don’t have to agree with it. Come ready to weigh in.
The speakers
- Mike Nelson, retired Denver7 chief meteorologist, longtime voice on climate, and author of The World’s Littlest Book on Climate
- Max Boykoff, Professor and Director of Environmental Studies at CU Boulder and a fellow at CIRES, who studies climate communication
- Chelsea Warren, Marketing and Communications Manager at Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency.
Who should come
Climate and sustainability professionals, advocates, communicators, and curious community members. Whether you say “climate change” in every meeting or have stopped altogether, there’s a seat for you.
General admission $15; $5 for job-seekers and students.
